LOCATION

Step out of your door into the tranquillity of your own private garden and take an unobstructed view deep into the heart of peaceful Ennerdale, from Crag Fell on past Pillar toward Great Gable.

Explore the unspoilt Ennerdale on foot or by bike, alternatively go pony trecking in the fells. There is only one road to Ennerdale Water and the road does not circuit the lake although there is a footpath that does. This makes Ennerdale Water one of the least accessible lakes for motorists and one of the best for walkers. The lake is two and a half miles long, quiet and surrounded by crags. The skyline takes your eye to Pillar which following his tour with Coleridge in 1799, inspired Wordsworth to pen "The Brothers". For the more adventurous you can take the track beside the lake and upwards along the river Liza to Black Sale Hut Youth Hostel and on to Great Gable. Alternatively walk over the fells between Banna Fell and Herdus, on past Great Borne to Buttermere for lunch.

The nearby villages of Kirkland & Ennerdale Bridge are on the Coast to Coast Walk & Cycle (C2C) routes. The Reivers Cycle route runs from Whitehaven to Tynemouth and the Coast to Coast from Whitehaven to Sunderland.

Should you wish to eat out, there are four pubs/restaurants serving excellent home cooked food in only two to three miles in either direction from the end of the track.
